You might have a caught a few episodes of Rachael Ray’s “30 Minute Meals” if you’re a fan of the Food Network. Each episode, Rachael Ray shows us how to prepare a quick meal often using ingredients that are commonly found in the kitchen. Some of her quick meal recipes include steakhouse chili, double mushroom and marsala cream fettuccine, and salmon fillets with dill couscous and spicy kale. It’s no surprise that the concept of delicious meals prepared easily in a short amount of time appeals to the audience, especially in a day and age where people are strapped for time and constantly on the go. Fortunately Rachael Ray and her quick meal recipes are here to save you time and satisfy your appetite—tune in and snag a recipe or two. Another great thing about these quick meals is that often they can be prepared shortly and last a long time. Some recipes make enough of a batch that the leftovers can be stored in the freezer and eaten for rest of the week. That’s a lot of time saved throughout the course of 7 days.
But are quick meal recipes too good to be true? Like anything that’s subject to judgment, “30 Minute Meals” has its critics. Some say that in reality, these meals can’t be completed in half an hour, because like any other TV program it gets interrupted by commercial breaks during which Rachael Ray does some cooking and preparation that we don’t see. While Rachael Ray is filmed cooking live, she can potentially do extra work while the camera isn’t filming, making the actual cooking time longer while the broadcasted program still adheres to its half hour schedule. Others complain that the allegedly easy to find in the kitchen ingredients aren’t always so available. For example, dill couscous and spicy kale aren’t items that are prevalent throughout households. Perhaps “30 Minute Meals” is targeted to a limited demographic.
“30 Minute Meals” might have its shortcomings, but no one can argue that Rachael Ray’s quick meal recipes aren’t better than the other kind of quick meal that you take out of the freezer and pop into the microwave. Good cooking always takes some effort, and the food you make is as good as the time you put into it. Inevitably you have to sacrifice quality with a less quantity of time, but Rachael Ray does a reasonably good job of making cooking simple and easy.
